Do I need a referral to attend Ashgrove Optical?

You do not need a referral for an eye examination - simply call us to book in.  However, when you attend your appointment, please bring in your current spectacles that you use, and any contact lens information (if applicable), as this is helpful in assessing any changes to your eye prescription.

To ensure that we can give you our full care and attention, we prefer that you call and book in an appointment. We can often accommodate last-minute appointments if something urgent arises - simply call us to discuss.

Payment types include HICAPs and claiming your optical cover through your health insurance (if you have optical extra coverage), as well as cash, Visa and Mastercard.

A comprehensive eye examination takes around 30 minutes.  For diabetic eye testing, this can be up to 45 minutes.

If needed, our Optometrists can refer you to your General Practitioner or Ophthalmologist.  We will provide you with referral documentation, which includes a summary of your recent eye examination and the reason for referral.

An optometrist is a University qualified professional person who is an expert in eye health. Most optometrists in Australia have completed a science Degree or a Doctorate in Optometry. To make sure they stay up to date with the latest developments, Optometrists complete Professional development on an ongoing basis as part of their conditions of Registration.
